About the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter

The Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter is home to adolescent boys and girls through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This program provides a safe setting for children during their first days in America until a permanent setting can be established for them.

About the Care Provider Position

The Care Provider provides services for a diverse population of Unaccompanied Children (UC) of all ages and genders. Responsible for the day-to-day care and guidance of the youth of the Maryville Unaccompanied Children program. Assists with the management of the living environment of the program and promotes the learning of desirable behavior patterns by youth in a safe and nurturing environment. Program Care Provider is a grant position related solely to the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter as funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and any successor funding.

Essential Functions:

  • Follows all Maryville’s policies and procedures as well as all standard operating procedures for the Unaccompanied Children Program;
  • Provides for the basic needs of the Unaccompanied Children including, but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, clothing, daily routines, recreational activities, laundry and education;
  • Conducts oneself as a role model for the children/youth;
  • Provides consistent “line of sight” supervision of youth.
  • Provide safe transportation of child/youth to various scheduled activities.
  • Completes all required logs, forms and reports;
  • Assists youth with processing of events and emotions in a confidential manner in all behavioral areas;
  • Attends a minimum of 20 hours advanced training/workshops on an annual basis;
  • Performs other duties / functions as requested by supervisory personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in human services field, preferred;
  • 2 years’ experience working with youth in a residential setting preferred.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Able to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in stressful situations;
  • Successful completion of all staff education requirements including: Pre-Service training, NCI, CPR, and ARC Model;
  • Strong bilingual (Spanish/English) verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to establish trust and positive rapport with children and work within ethical boundaries;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize job duties and needs of the children;
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel), and documentation programs.
  • Able to drive a passenger van.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and drive for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs;
  • Required to lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform periodic computer based tasks;
  • Must possess ability to provide physical restraint to youth;
  • Must have the visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential job functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Will perform work in, and in association with, Maryville program settings and various community settings;
  • Duties involve contact with youth who may be traumatized.
  • Must be flexible in scheduling and willing to work evening and weekend shifts.
