Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) -ALL SHIFTS- St. Catherine of Siena - Chicago 60108

Maryville Academy is excited to be a part of opening a new program in Chicago! St. Catherine of Sienna is going to be providing care and support to medically fragile youth. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assures the provision of quality health services for clients in the St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center according to the standards and guidelines of the State of Illinois. The CNA works under the supervision of, and takes directions from, a licensed nurse in the performance of tasks in the care of children at St. Catherine of Siena. This position requires the consistent exercise of discretion and confidentiality.

  • Must be a graduate of certified/basic nurse’s aide program.
  • Must be currently registered as a nurse’s aide in the State of Illinois.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Experience in a pediatric hospital is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • $23.00 per hour, eligible for overtime if available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows all Maryville’s standard policies and procedures as well as all standard operating procedures for the CHC;
  • Assists patients with all personal hygiene and toileting needs;
  • Assists patients with comfort needs by transferring, lifting, moving and positioning patients as appropriate;
  • Assists with food preparation and patient feeding;
  • Assists patients with educational and play activities;
  • Takes and records patient vital signs and measures, and records patient intake and output as directed by the nurse;
  • Ensures patient clothing and all personal items are identified and laundered regularly;
  • Ensures the unit’s linens and towels are laundered and put away;
  • Maintains the cleanliness of patient rooms by changing linens, and cleaning equipment and toys daily;
  • Straightens and cleans laundry and break rooms;
  • Transports patients in a Maryville van, as needed;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • A graduate of certified/basic nurse’s aide program;
  • Must be currently registered as a nurse’s aide in the State of Illinois;
  • Must be CPR certified;
  • Experience in a pediatric hospital is preferred;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Skills /Knowledge:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care;
  • Able to identify sudden adverse developments in patient condition;
  • Requires knowledge of disease process;
  • Requires ability to assist with various nursing procedures such as trach suctioning, and GT feedings;
  • Ability to drive a passenger van.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods;
  • Required to occasionally lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
  • Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Evening Schedules: 3pm-11pm
  • Overnight Schedules: 11pm-7am
  • Work is performed in designated administrative office and clinical settings;
  • Duties may involve contact with youth who may be hostile, threatening, aggressive, and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.

HIPAA PRIVACY TRAINING AND SANCTIONS:

All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plan’s policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Site specific training on requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plan’s health information policies and procedures under the direction of the plan privacy officer may be required for this position based upon site specific requirements. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
