Evening Coordinator

Department: St. Dominic Savio Boys Transitional Program
Location: Des Plaines, IL

Maryville Academy has an opening for a full-time Evening Coordinator in our St. Dominic Savio Program for Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) Involved Youth.  The individual in this position would work from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and will include at least one weekend day.

St. Dominic Savio Program for Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) Involved Youth

The Transitional Program for Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) Involved Youth provides residential and support services to young men under the age of 21 to help them successfully transition from the Juvenile Justice System to life in the community.

About the Evening Coordinator Position

The Evening Coordinator works closely with the Program Director in the overall organization and ongoing development of an assigned residential setting during a specific shift. He or she monitors the interactions of staff and youth to ensure appropriate service delivery in a safe and nurturing environment, and provides shift leadership, direction, and coordination in order to facilitate the integration of resources for the betterment of the youth enrolled in the program.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides coordination of daily activities including therapy sessions, recreation, meal planning, visitations, the self-administration of medication by youth and group interventions;
  • Participates in the milieu and is part of the staff/youth ratio;
  • Provides input into the development of treatment plans and objectives;
  • Assists with the orientation of program participants and staff members;
  • Oversees the written documentation required daily for each youth, including, but not limited to: record documentation, billing logs, medical logs, and specific information as requested by the treatment team;
  • Leads shift transition meetings and participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings, as needed;
  • Supports and encourages staff members when dealing with crisis situations;
  • Assists with the allocation of daily financial resources in accordance with the programís budget;
  • Transports youth in a Maryville van, as needed; and
  • Participates in continued performance quality improvement.


Minimum Requirements

Education and Skills:

  • Minimum High School Diploma / G.E.D;  Bachelor Degree preferred;
  • Minimum of one year of experience appropriate to population being served;
  • Some management experience, preferred;
  • Ability to implement the ARC (Attachment, Self-Regulation, Competency) model of care;
  • Ability to engage youth in a manner which encourages autonomy through the development of problem solving skills, as well as fostering the understanding and development of new concepts and skills; most often these activities occur in a group or 1:1 context;
  • Successful completion of initial and ongoing training requirements;
  • Must possess a valid Illinois driverís license in compliance with the driving standards as identified on form CFS-671;
  • Ability to drive a passenger van;
  • Demonstrate skill in working with and managing children of the type served in the program;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing, with Maryville youth, supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, support agencies, and a variety of internal, as well as external, consumers;
  • Knowledge and understanding of minority group cultures;
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of basic supervision and management;
  • Ability to learn and use computer technology.
Physical Demands:
  • Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods; ability to walk up and down stairs;
  • Required to lift/ move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
  • Must possess the ability to provide physical restraint to youth;
  • Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.
Environment and Scheduling:
  • Work is performed in, and in association with, group home settings, including but not limited to schools, recreational facilities, court rooms, hospitals, correctional/detention institutions, and various community settings;
  • Duties may involve contact with youth who may be threatening, aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary;
  • May be scheduled to work on weekends, evenings, and/or holidays;
  • Duties include 24 hour on-call and immediate response to emergency needs of the program.
