Director of Nursing

Department: Children's Healthcare
Location: Chicago, IL

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing is engaged primarily in the setting and monitoring of the standards of quality patient care provided to clients at Maryville’s Children's Healthcare Center (CHC) and St. Catherine of Siena (SCOS), and in the supervision of CHC and SCOS nursing staff. This position, which reports to the Family Services Division Director, requires advanced knowledge in the field of nursing, in addition to the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in compliance with all policies and procedures of Maryville, and the standard operating procedures of the CHC.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Management:

  • Provides leadership, direction and coordination to develop and implement the Maryville philosophy within the scope of the professional guidelines set forth by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation;
  • Maintains policies of organizational effectiveness and efficiency coordination for the staff at the CHC and SCOS, and nursing personnel at Madden Shelter, as necessary;
  • Provides direction, guidance and supervision to children and their families utilizing services at the CHC and SCOS, in accordance with Maryville’s mission;
  • Provides direct communication to the CHC and SCOS's medical director, as needed, in regards to any program or safety issue concerning the care of the clients utilizing the center;
  • Monitors the day-to-day CHC and SCOS operations to ensure that all clients receive appropriate treatment in a safe and nurturing family/home-based environment;
  • Evaluates and provides feedback to staff on their implementation of policies and procedures and on their professionalism through regular written, as well as daily informal, consultation
  • Participates in the selection of new staff by interviewing applicants and making recommendations for hire;
  • Manages/coordinates the maintenance of the physical plant, landscaping,

  • Ensures that all new staff are orientated to the program as set forth by the guidelines of governing bodies;
  • Provides training and instruction to CHC and SCOS staff;
  • Oversees parent/caregiver training prior to client discharge;
  • Ensures that CHC and SCOS nursing staff meet the nursing competencies required for licensing;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois

Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Nursing or health-related field; MS/MSN Degree plus two years of child care experience preferred

Experience in pediatric care (NICU/PICU), emergency care, palliative care, or hospital nursing; one year of supervisory experience preferred

Extensive knowledge in the management and administration of programs for youth

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Pay Range: $140,000-160,000 per year
