About the St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center

St. Catherine of Siena. St. Catherine of Siena is a DCFS 10-bed co-ed Shelter for medically fragile children (not ventilator dependent) aged birth to age 21.

About the Cook Position: At Maryville, the Cook is responsible for the preparation for all food items required for our clients, staff, and visitors, and to do so in accordance with governmental guidelines.

  • Must be over the age of 21
  • Must have a valid Illinois Driver's License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows all Maryville’s policies and procedures as well as all standard operating procedures for designated work sites/programs;
  • Responsible for the preparation and serving of all food on schedule, according to the menu;
  • Utilizes standardized recipes, portion control and ingredient controls;
  • Maintains food costs through the use of "FIFO", food rotation, safe food handling, recording of food production amounts, and utilizing carryovers;
  • Assists in planning nutritious, balanced and appetizing meals in accordance with governmental guidelines;
  • Assists with food ordering and inventory;
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • Culinary degree or related discipline preferred, but relevant experience and technical abilities may be substituted;
  • Must possess Food Protection Manager Certificate.

Skills /Knowledge:

  • Ability to provide food service and work under pressure during busy production periods;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods;
  • Required to lift/ move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
  • Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Work is performed in the designated kitchen area;
  • Duties may involve contact with youth or adults who may be threatening, aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.
