About the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter

The Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter is home to adolescent boys and girls through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This program provides a safe setting for children during their first days in America until a permanent setting can be established for them.

About the Lead Case Manager Position

Provides leadership, direction, and coordination for the Case Manager position that is necessary to develop and implement the Maryville philosophy and ARC Model. Provides coordination and consultation to each home’s Case Manager to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Has detailed knowledge of the prevailing standards of youth care as specified in the guidelines and regulations of the licensing, regulatory, and certifying bodies as well as the policies, procedures, rules, and timelines set by ORR for the specific program under his/her supervision. Engages primarily in the performance of managerial duties. Directs and supervises two or more other employees on an ongoing basis. This position is related to and existent for the term of the grant funding for the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter as funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and any successor funding solely for this program.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides leadership and direction to the Case Manager on services and documentation for clients in care at Maryville Academy. Collaborates with the Treatment Teams and Program Director in setting up mechanisms to ensure that the Admission Notes, Mental Health Assessments, and Individual Service Plans are developed and implemented by the treatment teams. Encourages the Case Manager to think and act therapeutically.
  • Takes a leadership role in maintaining up-to-date and accurate knowledge of all required documentation for the case Manager under his/her supervision. Conducts formal reviews of files and computerized records looking for content, applicability, and accuracy within their work. Contributes to the implementation and consistent application of the Maryville quality standards, and requirements governing each specific program under his/her supervision.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Case Managers, treatment team members, and administrators to facilitate resources and services for youth.
  • Provides leadership in facilitating effective interagency working relationships.
  • Evaluates the services being provided by the Case Managers in the programs as it relates to specific goals and standards and recommends modifications where appropriate. Keeps up to date with the standards of care concerning the population that each program services. Maintains up to date knowledge about the current literature, clinical trends, and direction that the field is taking as it relates to case management.
  • Works collaboratively and professionally with outside consumer and ORR staff. Cooperates fully with program review and evaluation and is open to suggestions that would improve the delivery of services for our youth.
  • Develops and maintains a treatment team approach to the day-to-day functioning of the Case Manager in his or her program. Demonstrates skills in team development, collaboration, and open communication.
  • Maintains an active presence within the agency and educates the Case Managers about new ORR policies and Procedures.
  • Ensures the implementation of all Maryville policies and procedures. Acts as liaison with other programs and Maryville support services such as Staff Education, Administrative support staff, Human Resources, and Performance Improvement and Performance Evaluation.
  • Ensures the adherence to agency policies and procedures regarding the hiring and training of new Case Managers.
  • Ensures, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department, that all Case Managers have the appropriate credentials, training, and expertise to do the work necessary for their position. Collaborates with Clinical Directors, Staff Education, and external experts to facilitate training staff in areas of deficiency.
  • Set performance goals and complete Performance Evaluations for all employees directly supervised.
  • Initiate personnel actions including disciplinary procedures for all employees directly supervised.
  • Ensure that all employees directly supervised are up to date on initial and annual training requirements as well as supplementary training required by the programs in which they work.
  • May be asked to participate in agency committee work.
  • Participates in continuous performance quality improvement.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Program Director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or bachelor’s degree with three years’ progressive employment experience that demonstrates supervisory and case management experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language competency required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and web-based databases;
  • Must conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
  • Must possess ability to provide physical restraint to youth;
  • Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Work is performed in, and in association with, Maryville program settings, as well as, but not limited to schools, recreational facilities, court rooms, hospitals, correctional/detention institutions, and various community settings;
  • Duties involve contact with youth who may be traumatized;
  • 24 hour on-call (pager) responsibilities;
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary;
  • May be scheduled to work on weekends and/or holidays.
